Short answer: most recent iPhones support eSIM, but support depends on the exact model number and the region where the iPhone was sold.
Fast check
- Open Settings > General > About.
- Look for EID.
- Open Settings > Cellular or Mobile Service and look for Add eSIM.
How to read the result
| What you see | What it means | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| EID and Add eSIM | Your iPhone should support eSIM. | You can install 4S eSIM if the phone is not carrier-locked. |
| EID, but no Add eSIM | The iPhone has eSIM hardware, but eSIM may be restricted by region, carrier lock, or software. | Update iOS, check carrier lock status, and confirm the exact model number. |
| No EID | The iPhone likely does not support eSIM. | Do not purchase yet. Check the model number or contact 4S support through support@4s.net, a Zendesk support ticket, or Zendesk live chat. |
Common supported models
For iPhones not purchased in Mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macao, common supported models include iPhone XS, XS Max, XR, iPhone 11 series and newer, iPhone SE (2nd generation or later), and newer models, depending on region.
Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao models
For iPhones bought in these regions, use this list before buying a 4S eSIM.
| Purchase region | Supports 4S eSIM | Does not support 4S eSIM |
|---|---|---|
| Mainland China | iPhone Air | All other Mainland China iPhone models. |
| Hong Kong and Macao | iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air | Hong Kong and Macao iPhone models before iPhone 17 generation are dual physical SIM models and do not support eSIM. |
If your Mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macao iPhone is not listed as supported above, do not buy a 4S eSIM for that device.
