Short answer: your phone or tablet must support eSIM and be unlocked to use 4S eSIM.
The easiest check is this: if your phone has an option such as Add eSIM, Download eSIM, or Add mobile plan, it is usually eSIM compatible.
What result means compatible?
| What you see | What it means | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Add eSIM, Download eSIM, or Add mobile plan | Your device usually supports eSIM. | You can install your 4S eSIM on this device if it is unlocked. |
| An EID number in your device information | Your device has eSIM hardware. | Also check that the phone is unlocked and shows an add-eSIM option. |
| No EID and no add-eSIM option | Your device may not support eSIM, or eSIM may be disabled for this model or region. | Do not purchase yet. Check your exact model number or contact 4S support through support@4s.net, a Zendesk support ticket, or Zendesk live chat. |
| The model supports eSIM, but there is no add-eSIM option | The phone may be carrier-locked, region-limited, or using outdated software. | Update the phone, check carrier lock status, and confirm the exact model. |
Check on iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Cellular or Mobile Service.
- Look for Add eSIM or Add Cellular Plan.
- Then open Settings > General > About.
- Look for an EID. If an EID is shown, the iPhone has eSIM hardware.
If you do not see Add eSIM or an EID, your iPhone is probably not eSIM compatible. For iPhones bought in Mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macao, check the exact model against the supported list below before buying.
iPhones bought in Mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macao
For iPhones bought in these regions, use this list before buying a 4S eSIM.
| Purchase region | Supports 4S eSIM | Does not support 4S eSIM |
|---|---|---|
| Mainland China | iPhone Air | All other Mainland China iPhone models. |
| Hong Kong and Macao | iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air | Hong Kong and Macao iPhone models before iPhone 17 generation are dual physical SIM models and do not support eSIM. |
Check on Samsung
- Open Settings.
- Tap Connections.
- Tap SIM manager.
- Look for Add eSIM.
If Add eSIM is missing, search Settings for eSIM. If nothing appears, the phone may not support eSIM, may be carrier-locked, or may be a regional model without eSIM support.
Check on Google Pixel and other Android phones
- Open Settings.
- Tap Network & internet.
- Tap SIMs.
- Look for Add SIM or Download a new eSIM.
If you are still not sure
Send 4S support your phone brand, exact model number, country or region where the phone was purchased, and a screenshot of the SIM/eSIM settings page.
Even if the model supports eSIM, a carrier-locked phone or regional variant may still be unable to install an eSIM.
